Naperville Riverwalk 50th Anniversary

Creating a path forward

As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Naperville Riverwalk we honor the past and look to the future:

  • Built with the Can-Do Spirit of Naperville, the Riverwalk is truly the people’s Riverwalk, built by the citizens of Naperville from corporate and community leaders to scout troops, college students and families laying bricks together.
  • The gracious linear park ties together secluded wooded glens, inviting open plazas and our vibrant Downtown cityscape, offering a variety of experiences to enjoy in the heart of the community.
  • A robust economic engine, the Riverwalk attracts visitors from far and wide, bringing commerce to the central business district year round, supporting our tax base and ensuring continual investment.
  • The Riverwalk 2031 Master Plan will ensure the stabilization and conservation of this unique natural asset while offering new opportunities for accessibility, gathering and recreation for generations to come.
  • A number of funding opportunities ensure that the vision of the 2031 Master Plan becomes reality for all to enjoy. From major naming opportunities to engraved bricks, there are ways for everyone to be part of the 50th Anniversary celebration!

“It’s really important as the community has grown, that the Riverwalk has increased capacity, environmental stewardship, and is enhanced for future generations.  It’s not going to happen by itself.”
